Holy Communion: Holy Communion is served weekly, as well as on special feast days during the Church year. In accordance with the Word of God and the Lutheran Confessions, we practice closed communion (open this document to learn more: Fellowship in the Lords Supper or here: “Close, closed, close[d] Communion“). Visitors who are not members of congregations in fellowship with Immanuel (LCMS) are encouraged to remain seated during the distribution of the Sacrament or come forward for a blessing with arms folded across the chest. The pastor would be glad to speak with you if you have additional questions about our communion practice or beliefs.

Sunday School and Bible study: Youth (grades 7-12) bible study meets in the Youth room in the church at 8:30. Sunday School (PreK – 6th) begins at 8:30 a.m. with classes located in the classrooms in Immanuel Lutheran School. A Bible class is held in the church basement. These education opportunities greatly enhance your faith and understanding of the Bible and God’s work of salvation in Jesus. Classes run from September to May (see the calendar page for exact days/times classes meet).

Summer Worship: During the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day weekends), worship continues to be held in the church sanctuary unless prolonged heat and/or humidity causes a location change to the adjacent, air-conditioned Christian Life Center (CLC) attached to the school building. There is no Bible class or Sunday School over these months. Holy Communion is served every Sunday.

Our worship life centers around Christ and His gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation. We use Lutheran Service Book and its liturgies to provide the foundation that assures us that God continues to come to us to serve us with the one thing needful – Jesus.

Our worship services are also broadcast on local Plainview cable providers:

  • Mid Continent (MidCo) – Channel 20 – no set time, but runs continuously through the day – cycles through services with Good Shepherd Lutheran Church (ELCA) and Trinity Lutheran Church (LCMS) of Elgin
  • HBC – Channel 20 – Sundays at 8:00 a.m., Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.

If broadcast television is a better option for you or someone you know who does not have Plainview cable channels or a quality internet connection (at least 10 Mbps) for viewing video, you can watch an LCMS program on Sunday mornings called “Main Street Living.” It is broadcast at 9:00 a.m. Central time on WFTC channel 29 (HBC [Plainview cable TV provider], Dish Network, and Direct TV), over the air: 9-2, or channel 13 on MidCo (Plainview cable customers). Each Sunday, viewers enjoy a 30-minute remastered episode of “This is the Life,” a popular Lutheran Hour Ministries series from the 70s and 80s. The episode is followed by a modified Lutheran worship service—led by a different local pastor each week.
