Jan 23 – Third Sunday after Epiphany

The Divine Service for the Third Sunday after Epiphany (January 23, 2022)

“The Shocking Sermon” – Luke 4:16-30

Jesus preaches in his hometown of Nazareth and delivers a sermon that shocks everyone. He is the fulfillment of God’s Word. He is the Messiah! But He is not about to do miracles to prove it. 2,000 years later, people are not so different, even though we know the end of the story. We know that Jesus lived, died on a cross, and rose from the dead. But do we delight in hearing the good news? It is shocking how we respond to God’s grace. But even more shocking is that God never gives up on us! His grace and love never fail, so we can always rely on God to seek forgiveness and strength for living in these troubling days.

We welcome everyone to the beginning of National Lutheran Schools Week! This is an annual celebration of what God is doing in and through Lutheran schools, from day cares and elementary schools, to high schools, colleges, and seminaries. The ILS school children sang at the 10:15 service. Thanks to Mike MacPherson for his recording!
