“God Working in You” – Philippians 1:2-11

Through the prophets, God prepared His people for the first advent of Jesus. Through the preaching of Paul, we are prepared for the day of Jesus Christ – His second advent. God begins a good work in us by grace through faith and promises to bring it to completion when Jesus comes again. What a great promise and hope we have in Jesus!

Oct 31 – Reformation Sunday

The Divine Service for Reformation Sunday (October 31, 2021). We also observe the rite of Confirmation at the late service for two youth catechumens. We give thanks to God for providing Martin Luther and for giving him the strength and courage to stand firm in the true faith that set him free. Freed to stand firm and strong in Christ, Luther did just that. In doing so, he showed God’s love to thousands of people. We are also a people blessed by his service. May we also humbly do God’s work in whatever way we can and be faithful to God who has saved us.

May 2 – Fifth Sunday of Easter

The Divine Service for the Fifth Sunday of Easter (May 2, 2021). We celebrated the confirmation of five youth confirmands in the service today. They were connected to the Vine in their baptism and now confessed that saving faith before God and the congregation. Jesus says, “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Confessing Jesus is proof that you are connected to the vine. As a branch, the more you take in Jesus, the more fruit you bear!

October 25 – Reformation Sunday

The service of the Word and Prayer for Reformation Sunday (October 25, 2020). We will never understand the grace of God unless we get just how sin messes with our hearts and lives. We can end in despair or in prideful self-righteousness unless we are guided to a better understanding of who God is. Jesus comes to forgive and tells us to abide in His Word that we would know real truth that sets us free of both despair and pride. May the blessings of the Reformation’s emphasis on the power of the Gospel to save give you cause to rejoice in your salvation!

It’s nearly time to vote in the general elections of 2020. But how do you select a candidate to vote for?
